Nelson Nugget’s Adventure

Nelson Nugget is a simple nugget with one goal in life: to get to the sweet and sour sauce. As Nelson you will run through gross fast-food restaurants, escape crazed children, collect fallen hot chips and search everywhere just to find the elusive sweet and sour sauce.

This is a scrolling platformer passed around a silly nonsensical story, creating an exciting and wacky game. The basic mechanics for this game surround running and jumping to make it through the levels.

Concept Creation

The idea for this game came from crash bandicoot, it is a timing-based platformer that is a classic to many. Jumping from the bizarre idea they had to base a game around a bandicoot, the concept of another platformer surrounding an unexpected character evolved. This eventually resulted in deciding a nugget as the main character to give a similar wacky energy.

Scrolling platform games have always been incredibly popular such as Mario being one of the most famous videogames in the world. It is a simple and attractive game concept as it is easy to understand but also creates a competitive theme when trying to improve upon person time on each level.

Similar games to this are Mario and crash bandicoot.

Audience

Platformers have a large demographic as the controls are usually simple and since it is a heavily game play centric genre there tends to not be as many mature themes created through complex story. This is true for Nelson Nuggets Adventure. Also, the simple gameplay easily attracts casual gamers, but the precision element of these games also attracts competitive and precision driven players.

Overview

Premise

You are a nugget from a non-descript fast food chain trying to fulfill his dream of lying in sweet and sour sauce. But to do this he has to avoid obstacles and run from evil children that want to eat him.

Mechanics

The mechanics of this game are simple, just run and jump to make it through each level.

Other elements

Within the levels there is also a score and timer system. The score can go up through picking up fallen hot chips. And the timer is to create added pressure to the player to want to improve themselves giving the game replay value.

Art style


The art style of this game will be simplistic shapes offset by the realism of the characters legs. Although all art will be pixelated making the look of the game uniform.

When it comes to the colour pallet it will mostly be dreary grey and browns with splashes of bright red and yellow showing that the restaurant is trying to cover up its dirtiness with cartoonish colours.
