Basic level blocking for Nelson’s Nuggets Adventure

Art Style

Images from McDonald’s around the world were used as reference for this level, the basic setting is reflective of this image showing seats made of plastic hamburgers and a simple yellow stool. This was chosen as it has a sort of the kiddish feel to it which contrasts with the decrepit background chosen, although the cartoonish hamburger was simplified down into more of flat stool making an easier platform to be jumped on.

The background was made to feel like a dystopian version of real fast-food restaurants by having the walls scratched up and covered in sauce with damaged posters highlighting popular menu items.

Level design

This level is a short introduction to the basic concept of the game. It simply has the player running and jumping along stools avoiding the tomato sauce on the floor that acts like marble in this game instantly killing the player in large amounts. Another added mechanic is making it so that hamburgers are bouncy giving the player the ability to double jump bridging larger gaps in adding intensity to the game. The end of the game is highlighted by an opened sauce container that the player jumps into commencing immediate movement on to the next level.

camera tracking

Using Cinemachine the player’s movements will be tracked bringing the scope of the level easier to focus on each movement. Although at the end of the level the camera will zoom out revealing the passed level.

Dying, health and time

within the level tomato sauce stains can be seen on the floor the small stains will knock back one from total of three health the character has, but if the character touches the largest sauce stain, they will immediately die. If the character is to die the level will be restarted after an animation of Nelson falling to the ground. Death has little impact to the game besides being frustrating as they will have to start again.

Another element in this game is how each level will be timed so that at the end of the game there will be a school board for each level creating competition for the player.
